The Alaris 8100 is intended for healthcare service providers who employ infusion and/or syringe pumps to administer fluids, medications, blood, and blood products either by continuous or intermittent delivery. It can be programmed to accurately deliver a specific amount of medication or fluid over a specific amount of time. As a safety measure, it double-checks values encoded by the user and issues an alert if these settings are considered unsafe for infusion.
Up to four modules can be attached to either side of the pump unit which makes it possible to administer four different infusions. It can then be programmed to sound an alarm anywhere within 1 to 60 minutes before the infusion ends. A different alert time can be specified for intermittent and continuous infusions. It supports the Guardrails Suite MX software, which counter-checks infusion doses and reduces the danger of medication errors.
