The Hospira PCA 3 Syringe Infusion Pump is a portable pump which can be used in different clinical settings - General Floor, Labor/Delivery/Post Partum, Burn Unit, Medical/Surgical, Operating Room, Oncology, Critical Care Units, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Pediatrics. It allows administering of analgesia either by the healthcare provider or the patient, safely within programmed limits. It can also deliver continuous infusion as the need arise.
Its prime feature is the use of a barcode reader, which automates drug identification. It uses either pre-filled disposable vials from Hospira, which are bar coded, or sterile and empty vials which are custom-filled by the healthcare facility. And as an optional feature, it can also store information about infusion history.
At power on, it executes a self test to check that the processing, delivery, and safety systems are ready for operation. A failure in its system check will be retained in its Malfunction Log. Several alarms may occur during the power on self-test, and each alarm identifies a specific problem. This feature makes it easy for the user to take corrective action.
