The SonoSite L38E Ultrasound Probe is a linear transducer that emits soundwaves from 10 to 5 MegaHertz and has a scan depth of 9 centimeters. It is effectively used in breast ultrasound to screen for lumps, tumors, and other breast abnormalities, and small parts ultrasound to evaluate many of the superficial organs of the body such as the thyroid gland, the neck and the testes and look for signs of disease. It is also used in musculoskeletal ultrasound to produce pictures of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints throughout the body and help diagnose sprains, strains, tears, and other soft tissue conditions. Another of its application is in vascular ultrasound to examine the circulation in the blood vessels of the body and help identify blockages in the arteries and veins, nerve ultrasound for the diagnosis of peripheral nerve disorders, venous ultrasound to search for blood clots, and intima-media thickness (IMT) ultrasound used to detect the presence, track the regression, or arrest progression of atherosclerosis. It is compatible with the SonoSite MicroMaxx ultrasound system.
