The Avance S5 features both advanced anesthesia delivery and the ability to monitor a range of patient parameters. It can monitor up to 12-lead ECG, NIBP, up to 6 invasive blood pressure channels, temperature, SpO2 and respiration rate. The Avance S5 features a technologically advanced ventilator, the 7900 SmartVent, which has several modes including Volume Control, Pressure Control, PSVPro, SIMV (Volume and Pressure), and Manual ventilation. Its electronic gas mixer has a quick response time and increased accuracy, supporting low-flow anesthesia and low-flow practices reduce the wasting of gas. Electronic cylinder pressure alarms alert the clinicians when cylinders are low and dual flow sensing technology improves overall patient safety with 200 daily gas checks.

The device has an Advanced Breathing System (ABS) that's autoclavable, easy to assemble and disassemble, and can be fully integrated into the unit. It has special features such as system checkout, quick keys, and 8-second power down delays. It is also capable of displaying patient spirometry which measures airway pressures, flow, volumes, compliance and airway resistance. It features ergonomic designs such as a universal interface with the GE Carescape line, intuitive menus and flexible displays, large workspace, and electrical surge protection and backup battery power.
