The Leica M680 is a surgical microscope for reconstructive, hand, heart and spinal surgery, urology, and gynecology procedures. The M680 combines two independent optical systems with the ease-of-use offered by the device to give the surgeons or medical personnel more freedom to perform a procedure.
The M680 is equipped with two independent optical systems that allow two medical personnel to work at the same time even on different magnifications. The optical systems have two independent zoom systems and two independent focusing systems that use a single objective lens. This system allows the two medical personnel, usually a surgeon and an assistant, to control their individual magnification settings and field of view. This, in turn, increases the co-operation between each personnel working on the same patient.
The surgical microscope is designed to enhance the work efficiency of the medical personnel. The focusing and zooming of the above-mentioned two independent optical systems, and the tilting and turning functions of the microscope are completely motorized which allow for easy positioning of the microscope.
The M680 is also provided with two sets of footswitches and handswitches for focusing and zooming functions. These systems allow each medical personnel to have access to the device and also allow one user to take over all the functions of the microscope while his or her partner works on the patient. The M680 is also designed for modularity which makes it compatible with other Leica Microsystems accessories. It allows the medical personnel to tailor the procedure more precisely by acquiring the accessories needed for a certain procedure. This modularity also adds to the cost-effectiveness of the surgical microscope.
